Version 1.1
I’m very pleased to announce that Notably’s first major update, version 1.1, is now in the App Store review pipeline! It was actually submitted earlier this week, so I’m still holding out hope that it may be approved in time for all the 3G users out there anxiously awaiting their new iPads this weekend.
What’s New?
- By popular request: A new options menu allows you to quickly turn auto-correction on and off. This will be especially helpful for writers who regularly use a Bluetooth keyboard, and don’t want to have to take their hands off the keys while working. If you prefer using Notably with an external keyboard, please let me know if this is making life easier for you.
- Workspace persistence. Leave the app at any time and the last note you were editing will automatically be restored when you return. It’s like multitasking lite!
- The ‘My Notables’ view now remains sorted by last modification time, automatically re-sorting notes as you work (version 1.0 re-sorted notes only when starting the application). Parenthetically, this actually turned out to be an unbelievably complicated fix, as I believe there is a bug in the Apple SDK pertaining to the interaction between CoreData and table views. It looks to be sorted now, though — please don’t hesitate to let me know if you see any problems.
- The font selection popover now indicates which font is currently selected when it appears.
- Icon awesomeness has been significantly enhanced.
- Welcome note for new users.
- Memory management refinements enhance long-term app stability.
Folders?
Folders for organizing notes have been a frequently requested feature, and I had hoped against hope that I would have time to integrate them into 1.1. Unfortunately, some of the other to-do items wound up being more difficult to perfect than I’d anticipated (see the aforementioned SDK bug) so I had to make the decision to wait. I am working on a folder system now (for 1.2), and though it may take me a couple of weeks to complete it I think your patience will be rewarded. :) It really will bring a whole new level of usefulness to Notably, and I’m working hard to get it done and polished.
And Thanks.
I really appreciate everyone who has written to me with suggestions, compliments, bug reports, and questions — it’s really a kick for me to hear how people are using Notably and even to see the app in the wild. So thank you! By all means, please keep the feedback coming.
